What branch is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics also allows the individual to have treatment on their teeth without the need for any restoration (veneers, zirconium, laminate). This situation eliminates any questions that come to mind on the teeth of the people.
The aim of the orthodontic profession has always been to achieve the ideal tooth alignment. People who specialise in this profession are called Orthodontists.
What is an orthodontic treatment, what are the treatment options?
Generally, the issues that families should pay attention to at an early age are primarily facial aesthetics. Parents who are not troubled by this situation should then express their concerns about the disorders in the mouth.
Primarily, defects in the face type (malocclusion) are lower jaw retardation and anteriority, open bite and upper jaw anteriority and posteriority. In such cases, the family should consult an Orthodontist immediately and find out about the necessary treatment.
The treatment to be seen at these ages eliminates the problems that will arise at later ages. Early orthodontic treatment is the first step of pleasing facial aesthetics. At the same time, since the treatment in the early stages will be guided by the growth of the individual, it reveals significant results in terms of bones.
The second type of treatment is the treatment with permanent teeth. In this part of orthodontic treatment, regardless of age, we need to be treated due to aesthetic concerns (crowding, image disorder, etc.) that occur in our teeth.
These treatments are essential for dental health. Crowding creates difficulties for us, especially in terms of cleaning the teeth rather than the visual appearance. It causes cavities in the later processes. When these are ignored for long periods, events that result in root canal treatment and even tooth loss occur.
It is also responsible for problems such as perplexity, speech disorders, chewing disorders and biting. Therefore, crowding should be treated as a priority.
The age of treatment can begin at age 7 for children. With the follow-up of the treatments, they are terminated within the required time frame.
For adult treatments, every individual with adequate oral hygiene can receive treatment.
In short, it starts at the age of 7, and orthodontic treatment is possible for every individual with good oral hygiene.
There are generally three types of treatment in orthodontic treatment. These treatment methods are divided into three as conventional type bracketing, lingual orthodontics and clear aligner treatment.
Conventional bracketing, which is the first of these forms of treatment, is usually performed with metal brackets. Alternatively, the types of brackets can be changed to transparent, sapphire and porcelain.
Later, lingual bracketing, a type of aesthetic preference, is also an alternative treatment option. In addition, transparent aligner treatment has recently come to the fore.
Among the reasons this treatment method is preferred is eliminating aesthetic concerns, ease of use, and removable use.
The duration of treatment varies according to the content of the treatment. Treatment periods start from an average of six months and last around 2.5 -3 years in total. Although this process depends on the person, it rarely changes.
During the orthodontic treatment, short-term pain is experienced at specific periods. These pains disappear after a while and with the adaptation shown.
In specific periods, wounds occur in the mouth, and these wounds heal in a short time like normal oral wounds.
With the end of the Orthodontic Treatment, a reinforcement treatment begins. The purpose of this reinforcement treatment is to preserve the treatment results obtained and to be irreversible.
Reinforcement treatment can also be done in 2 different types. The first of these is transparent aligners made for protective purposes, which are out of standard treatment. These plates are usually used only at night for the first six months, 24 hours, and then for 6-12 months, completing the process.
The other fixation method is a thin wire located behind the lower and upper anterior teeth, known as retainers. The retainer is removed as soon as your dentist deems appropriate.
All required information should be collected and evaluated to determine the price of orthodontic treatment.
The treatment price is determined by obtaining all the data, making the diagnosis, selecting the treatment process and choosing the type of material to be used.
