Toothache<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Toothache is one of the main reasons why patients consult a dentist. Pain can occur due to different reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Major Causes of Toothache<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Exposure of dental dentin tissue: Gingival recession, erosion due to mechanical-chemical irritants and abrasion may result in sensitivity due to exposure of dentin tissue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Decays: If the loss of material in the tooth reaches the dentine, it causes pain in the patient. This pain is most observed when consuming sugary foods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pulpitis (dental pulp inflammation): It may usually be painful or painless, but the painless form becomes painful if exposed to the stimulus. It is generally diagnosed by dentists with spontaneous pain. The patient cannot tell localise the aching tooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apical periodontitis: As a result of the increase in the pressure in the tissues around the tooth root tip, the patient has pain, and the patient describes a feeling like the tooth rising from its place. The patient can localise the aching tooth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cracked tooth: In cracked tooth or broken restoration, the patient’s complaint is usually pain during chewing while eating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Occlusal Trauma<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Periodontal Abscesses: The patient can localise the aching tooth. If the abscess is opened in the oral cavity, the pain is less. Generally, the pain that occurs when touching the soft tissue and chewing is described. If it is not opened to the oral cavity, it is more painful due to the pressure due to the fluid in it.
Pericoronitis: inflammation of the soft tissue surrounding the wisdom tooth. Generally, it is more common in teeth that are not fully erupted..<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trauma<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What should you pay attention to if you received a direct or indirect blow from your mouth and teeth during any fall, injury, impact?

First, a bite test is performed on the patient who comes as a result of trauma. The aim is to see if the patient can open and close his \/ her mouth smoothly, that is, to examine if there is any joint problem. If there is a problem, it is reviewed in detail by radiography or cone-beam computed tomography.

Then the dentist proceeds into the mouth, and the soft tissues (tongue, lips, cheeks) are examined. After washing the mouth with saline, cuts, damages are determined and treated accordingly.

When proceeded to the teeth, they are evaluated in terms of fracture, cracks, and mobility. Possible sensitivity in teeth due to dentine exposure is a typical symptom.

In simple fractures, the fractured area can be restored. In cases where the pulp is also exposed, the patient requires root canal treatment or amputation. If the crack or fracture continues in the tooth’s root, the rate of retention of the tooth in the mouth is low, extraction is considered.

Apart from these, there may be increased mobility in the tooth, displacement, or tooth dislocation. In these cases, the dentist should be consulted without wasting time.

What should be done if a tooth is coming out of the tooth socket (avulsion)? How should the tooth be stored?

If you encounter such a situation, certain options can be taken in this situation.

First of all, the prognosis of the tooth, in this case, depends on the viability of the fibres on the tooth root surface.\u00a0 In a way that does not damage these fibres, the tooth can be washed from the crown part by washing it with saline and placing it in its slot, and going to the dentist (it is not preferred for milk teeth, it may damage the underlying permanent tooth). If this cannot be done, the tooth should be placed in milk, contact lens solution or saliva and go to the dentist. The time that the tooth stays dry outside the mouth affects the prognosis of the tooth, and it must be brought in one of the fluids written for the vitality of the fibres around the tooth.

When the patient comes, the dentist places the tooth in the patient’s mouth and splints the tooth on the adjacent teeth to avoid mobility.
